Whilst there is no denying the influence of My Dying Bride on Swallow The Sun’s sound and evolution, the band have their own distinctive sound within the genre.
Clocking in at well over an hour, the album opens with the ten minute title track and leads us through the various musical and vocal styles, into the intertwining of Doom/Death, melody and tempo changes throughout the rest of the album.
The guest appearances of Aleah Stanbridge (Trees Of Eternity / That Which Remains) on two tracks and Annette Olzon (Nightwish) on one track adds an extra dynamic to the light and dark sound contrast, but will doubtlessly afford the band a little extra exposure.
Ultimately this albums is perhaps more polished and accessible than their previous output, so with inevitably have its detractors, but all in all it is another fine release from the Finnish band.
