A buzz band that’s actually worth getting excited about, Crossfaith – along with fellow countrymen from Japan, Blood Stain Child – are bang on the money with their brand of Electro Metalcore.
Entering British consciousness with a bang that was the absolutely smashing “ZION EP” (still cheap on Bandcamp and worth getting just for the track “Jägerbomb”), several questions lingered… Continue reading

HUMILIATION – “Turbulence From The Deep”
Describing themselves as Malaysian Military Death Metal, Humiliation have made a decent name for themselves in the Malaysian scene, resulting in a number of higher profile shows in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, as well as multiple trips to Europe. I was lucky enough to discover them through a friend who had seen them perform at Metal Camp Kuala Lumpur, a higher profile show, which led me to see them at a show supporting Sadistic Intent (who never showed, leaving Humiliation as the headliners). Continue reading
EVOCATION – “Excised And Anatomized”
Known for their relatively unique sound Evocation utilised both aspects of Sweden’s famous death metal scene, that of the traditional crunchy Stockholm and then the later emerging Gothenburg scene with its stronger focus on melody. Perhaps fittingly, then, they have decided to cover 5 tracks from legendary bands which incorporates a variety of sounds from two distinct death metal country power houses. Continue reading
CARCASS – “Surgical Steel”
Carcass is a potential minefield when writing a review; a band pioneering so many sounds with differing groups of die-hard fans means whether the album is liked or not is going to be extremely relative. Continue reading
PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING – “The War Room EP” & “Inform Educate Entertain”
“Inform – Educate – Entertain”. Not many bands lay claim to such a mission statement but then not many bands are Public Service Broadcasting.
A two piece band who weld live instrumentation and Electronica around Public Information Films, archive footage and propaganda material to bring stories and events of the past to life. Continue reading
AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR – “All Hail Bright Futures”
When is a Post Rock album not really a Post Rock album?
Welcome to the world of Northern Irish group And So I Watch You From Afar who take the template of Instrumental Post Rock and infuse it with a large dose of summertime Pop and Progressive musicianship. Continue reading
PENTAGRAM (CHILE) – “The Malefice”
Pentagram (Chile) may be a name unfamiliar to many still, but they have been causing a stir for those with an ear to the ground since 1987.
Massively influential on so many of the major players of Death Metal and Black Metal today, they finally release their debut full length on September 6th.
So why is this such an important release and why have most people never had the privilege before? Why are bands like Napalm Death, At The Gates, Dark Throne, Avulsed, Destruction, Emtombed and Dismember huge fans… some of whom are guesting on this debut album…? Continue reading
ATHELSTAN – “The Ride”
Athelstan is one half of the project called ‘Forefather’ whom together with his brother ‘Wulfstan’ has created some of the best historical based metal ever, bar none. Therefore it was a little bit of a very pleasant surprise to learn that he had a solo album on the cards, and hence forth it came, ‘The Ride’. Continue reading
ACOLYTE – “Alta”
Last summer I made a diversion on a business trip North via the home of Metal, Birmingham of course, to attend a Sirius Promotions gig featuring 2 of my favourite bands from this fair Isle, Wodensthrone and The Gentleman’s Club of A Forest Of Stars.
Acolyte were the first band on that evening Continue reading
ROTTING CHRIST – “KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY”
So after 26 years as a band, 11 albums and counting, Rotting Christ have just written and recorded a masterpiece. Not many bands of this maturity will always pull this off, so I have so much respect for the Tolis brothers Sakis and Themis, the men whom are now solely behind the recording of the band’s music. Continue reading
