Soen are a new band on the scene, but were of instant interest to me. Featuring the bass talents of Steve DiGiorgio of Death and Sadus fame, Martin Lopez formerly of Opeth on drums, one could be forgiven for expecting something pretty damn heavy and progressive from their previous work.
Whilst it is undeniably incredibly well played, the sound was something of a surprise. The sound can be heavy at times, but the intricacy and melody are king here.
The Progressive Rock and Alternative stylings offered here should appeal to the many fans of Tool and other acts, such as Dead Soul Trible… if the similarites to Maynard and Co. leave you in comfortable territory.
